Unlike most BI professionals, I began my career on the business side, as a commercial lender. I made the move into data warehousing and business intelligence over 20 years ago because, as a business person, I saw that IT departments did not have the background to understand and deliver what business users needed. I was so convinced of the need for a business perspective that, after working in IT for 10 years, I moved back into a technical business role for another 10 years.
My extensive business-side experience (with years in financial data and analysis) gives me a unique perspective on the field, and my expertise and passion is in bridging data understanding between business users and IT departments.
Finally, I also enjoy and excel at playing a business analyst role, “translating” between end users and IT. The most successful data warehouse environments grow from a strong business/IT partnership, and I have years of experience in developing and strengthening these relationships.
